Our Story

History of the School

Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary was established in 1957 to serve the early forming community of the Greystanes district. Housed in a building which doubled as the church, the school was originally called Saint Simon Stock Primary.

Initially the parish was in the care of the Carmelite Fathers and the school was run by the sisters of Mercy, but in 1965 the Dominican Sisters of Malta took charge.

In the late 1960s school enrolments increased rapidly, and a new school building program was initiated on church land nearby. The first building was opened in 1970. The building program continued throughout the 1970s and in 1972, the school was renamed Our Lady Queen of Peace.

The school has always enjoyed a warm relationship with the parish from the time of the Carmelite Fathers, followed by the appointment of Fr Duggan, the first diocesan priest in 1972, (when the Parish was renamed Our Lady Queen of Peace) and the changeover in 1985 of the parish to the Society of St Gerard Majella.

In January 1988 the Maltese Sisters withdrew from the Parish leaving OLQP a fully staffed lay school.

In 2003 the school had its official opening of the new and refurbished facilities. This followed the Capital Works Project undertaken at the school between 1999 and 2003 at a cost of $4.5 million.

The most recent appointments are diocesan priests, Fr Gerry Iverson (Parish Priest), Fr Geoff Dickinson and Fr Robert Riedling who continue this relationship.
