ASPIRING tennis star Marco Ciarrocchi was invited to a special meeting with the Mayor of Cumberland Council recently to receive his Youth Sports Person nominee certificate.
The Our Lady Queen of Peace, Greystanes Yr 4 student was given the special presentation by the Mayor Greg Cummings as a result of his sporting accomplishments, most notably in tennis.
School coordinator Kym Romanous said she nominated Marco for Cumberland Council’s Young Sports Person of the Year.
"The Mayor invited Marco and his parents to a special presentation in the Council Chambers,’’ Mrs Romanous said.
At the presentation Marco received his certificate as a nominee in the prestigious competition, a gift bag and was allowed to sit at the Council Chambers meeting table and in the Mayor's chair.
Marco trains at Paul’s Tennis Academy in Greystanes where Paul McNamara is his coach.
His mum Gianna Ciarrocchi said he started at the academy just before his fifth birthday and always tries his best.
The very active tennis player competes in the Tennis Australia Junior Tournaments in the under 10 and under 12 age range.
Last year he won The Nepean District Tennis Association under 10 Round Robin in February, the Voyager Manly Elite Academy under 10 Boys singles in Oct and the 2017 Open Schools Tournament, representing Our Lady Queen of Peace Primary School at Eastwood Pennant Hills Tennis Association Grade 3 boys singles in November.
His current Australian Men’s ranking is 3475.
During the 2018 holidays he participated in a few junior tennis tournaments including the under 12 Boys Singles Northern Shore Gold Junior Tournament, Nepean Open Silver Junior Tournament, ANZ Newcastle Gold Junior Tournament and the Gosford Silver Junior tournament.
He was also Team Captain for the invitation-only Western Bulls Team in the Super 10s Super Tennis League at Sydney Olympic Park in February.
This month he represented his school at the Parramatta Diocese trials, played at the Tennis World Sydney Olympic Park Term 1 series under 10 Boys Singles by 6 playoff, Super 10s Super Tennis League semi and finals playoff, and Nepean Easter Weekend silver under 12 Junior Tournament.
In April he will play in the Nepean Gold 12u Junior Tournament, NSW Age Gold Junior Tournament singles/doubles and the Newcastle Silver Junior Tournament.
Though Marco was unsuccessful in the Cumberland Council Young Sportsperson of the Year competition, his busy program and many recent achievements indicate a future that is ‘ace’!
